7/3 Spillman's Cardinal Career likely over after second DUI arrest
Louisville PRP product JuJuan Spillman was arrested this morning on suspicion of DUI after police found 9.3 grams of marijuana and a loaded handgun in his car. Police say Spillman was pulled over for "failure to illuminate [his] license plate". This comes only a short time after the speedy wide receiver had Jan 31, '07 marijuana DUI charges amended to a possession charge, which levied drug classes and a $100 fine. Spillman was to rejoin the team this season after being suspended for the majority of last year. Coach Kragthorpe is in Mexico vacationing and is not aware of the Spillman situation, but it seems obvious that Spillman's playing days will be over.

"We are aware of JaJuan's situation," football spokesman Rocco Gasparro said. "However, Coach Kragthorpe is out of the country on vacation and cannot be reached. JaJuan's situation will be addressed when Coach Kragthorpe returns later in the week."

Spillman was highly touted in both football and basketball out of Pleasure Ridge Park. He was an integral part of the '06 Orange Bowl campaign, scoring a TD against PITT and giving Harry Douglas much needed rests in the kick return game. Spillman always had talent, however attitude and legal problems led to his demise. If, in fact this is the end, Spillman finishes with 16 catches for 120 yards, 4 rushes for 42 yards, and 35 returns for 849 yards including a 100 yard TD against Rutgers.

Spillman hasn't officially been dismissed, but expect an announcement regarding his status on the team sometime next week.

Cards' Big East Schedule Released
Louisville's 2008-09 basketball season in the BIG EAST Conference was revealed Wednesday. It includes two games each against Notre Dame, West Virginia and South Florida, which isn't easy, but a lot smoother than years past. Coach Pitino was quoted last year saying the Cards got the "shaft" in the scheduling, however he should feel a little better this year.

"As tough as our schedule was last season, this year our BIG EAST and non-conference schedule could be the toughest we have ever faced" said Coach Pitino in a statement from UofL, "With as many as nine BIG EAST teams ranked in the early top 25 rankings, this could be the strongest season for the league since its inception.  We look forward to the challenge and I know it will be fun for our fans and players alike."

Although game time and date will not be set until closer to the season, the home and road match-ups have been set. Louisville will host UCONN, DePaul, Marquette, PITT, and Seton Hall along with the home/away sets with ND, USF, and WVU. The Cards will get their only shot at Cincy, Georgetown, Rutgers, St. John's, Syracuse, Villanova on the road. Getting UCONN and PITT at home is huge because they have both been ranked in the top 5 of early preseason rankings. The revenge factor at G'town may also be on our side. With non-conference games scheduled against the likes of UK, Minnesota, and UNLV on the non-conference schedule, the Cards could have a tougher road then last season where it was ranked the 6th toughest in the nation.

7/1 We're Back;  Kragthorpe Keeps Cleaning House
After a brief hiatus, The L Yes! Report is back. We are currently putting together an in-depth football preview that will rival any on the Internet. We will break down the squad position-by-position, starting with the position Steve Kragthorpe coaches himself, the wide-outs. We will analyze each player, give predictions and expectations, and spotlight a particular player due for a break-out campaign. The Blitz will be your one-stop for all Louisville football news. Kragthorpe has been cleaning house this off-season, getting rid of the supposed "bad seeds" from the Petrino regime through dismissal and transfer. There have been 21 players to leave the team in on way, shape or form since Kragthorpe arrived in Louisville. In the past week Manual-product Aundre Henderson decided he didn't want to play football anymore:

"Aundre has decided not to play college football anymore," said Kragthorpe in a statement from the university. "He has given up his scholarship, but will not be transferring to another institution. He will continue his education at U of L, and I wish him nothing but the best."

Strange.

Michigan transfer James McKinney, who was highly recruited out of Louisville Central, was dismissed along with JUCO lineman C.J Millenbaugh because of grades. Both never saw any action for the Cards, but were expected to eventually start within the next couple seasons.

The L Yes! Report will be here every day to keep you up to date on the latest happenings in U of L sports. Make sure you check "Spanning the Globe" for articles about Cardinals from across the country and email us with any ideas for "YouTube of the Moment" clips. We have a new email address staff@lyesreport.com.

Remember, only 60 days until we get our revenge on the Cats in Papa John's. Never too early to get prepared so keep checking back up until kickoff.
